2020 SKYRUNNING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN VALL DE BOÍ
THE 7TH EDITION OF THE BUFF® EPIC TRAIL WILL HOST THE SKYRUNNING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ON 9, 10, 11 AND 12 JULY AT THE BUFF® MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL IN VALL DE BOÍ
The International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) has decided to make Vall de Boí the location of the 2020 Skyrunning World Championships. It was chosen thanks to its extensive experience as the organisation’s headquarters over the last few years and several World Championships, in particular in 2012 and 2016, as well as several editions of the Migu Run World Series calendar.
The Skyrunning World Championships will take place as part of the BUFF®Epic Trail and the BUFF® Mountain Festival, which is the most important sports and mountain festival in southern Europe attracting nearly 17,000 visitors to the festival and more than 4,000 participants in the different events that take place with an extensive programme of sports, cultural, gastronomic and nature-related activities for the whole family.
Marino Giacometti, President of the International Skyrunning Federation, stated:
‘We are very proud to designate the BUFF® Mountain Festival in Vall de Boí, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the heart of the Pyrenees in Spain, as the hosts of the 2020 ISF World Championships. Here, where part of the history of Skyrunning has already been written with the 2012 Skygames and the 2016 Skyrunning Championship, we are sure that we will enjoy another great event, which will also pay tribute to Skyrunning’s historical partner, BUFF® Original, and its visionary creator’.
Sònia Bruguera, Mayor of Vall de Boí, said:
‘Everyone in Vall de Boí is very proud that the International Skyrunning Federation wishes to hold the World Championships in Vall de Boí once again, as in 2016. It is a new challenge for our municipality and we will be sure to channel all our effort into making it a success, both in terms of organisation and participation, so that all visitors and residents can enjoy it’.
Albert Medrano, Marketing Manager Original BUFF®, stated:
‘As the main sponsor of the event, we get to relive the excitement and responsibility of having the BUFF® Epic Trail host the world championships once again. When the opportunity arose to repeat the 2016 experience, we didn’t hesitate to present our candidature again. A world championship is a challenge for the athletes who take part but also for the organisers, and our brand lives for the challenges set by the people who use our products and the challenge of satisfying those who seek constant improvements in the development of new products and improvements to existing ones. We have no doubt that we will enjoy a unique event all over again, in a unique setting with a unique team, who will make sure that everyone has a great time’.
The Skyrunning World Championship will include various mountain race specialties:
- 65-km Ultra
- 42-km Marathon
- Vertical Kilometre
Apart from these events, which make up the World Championship, there will be other amateur events open to fans who want to enjoy this great event by participating in various races with different distances:
- 26km race
- 12km race
Registration for the different events will be limited and will open on 25 September at www.buffmountainfestival.com from 10 a.m. onwards.
