This morning, 384 runners – 341 men and 43 women – have taken part in the SKYMARATHON® 42km that has got its starting point in Espot and finishing line in Barruera (Lleida). The Marathon distance, which has had an adverse meteorology not favourable for runners, belongs to the Skyrunner World Series.
In the men’s category there has been a constant struggle for the first place between Aritz Egea and Eugeni Gil. Egea has been leading the first half of the race until the kilometre 32 (curve of Sant Martí) where it has been surpassed by Eugeni Gil, who has become the undisputed leader of the marathon and winner of the 42K Championship in 04:08:24. Aritz Egea has finished the race in a second position (04:11:52), followed by Adrien Michaud who has completed the race in 04:16:47.
The podium in the women’s category has also been at odds until the last moment with a constant move of positions between Oihana Azkorbebeitia, Laura Sola and Celia Chiron. The three athletes have been running almost together during all the marathon but, finally, Oihana Azkorbebeitia has won the race in 05:07:28. With just 28 seconds of difference, Celia Chiron has arrived to the finishing line in 05:07:54, followed by Laura Sola that has finished the 42K in 05:10:23.
