GERARD MORALES, WINNER OF THE BUFF® EPIC TRAIL ULTRA MARATHON® 2017
The BUFF® PRO TEAM athlete, winner of one of the most epic editions of the BUFF® EPIC TRAIL 105k. A race that undoubtedly has lived up to its name.
This morning, 122 runners have taken the start to face BUFF® EPIC TRAIL, the Ultra Marathon 105k, one of the few mountain races that take place in a natural park. Shortly after its start, the runners have been surprised by a heavy rain that has persisted part of the route and, with the forecast of bad weather for the evening, has forced to stop the race between refuges of Espot (67k) and Estany de Gento (81K).
A tough and difficult decision for the organization that takes into account the effort and trainning that requires an Ultra Marathon for runners, with an elevation gain of roughly 8,000 m and similar elevation loss such as the BUFF® EPIC TRAIL 105k, in which it has been prioritized to guarantee the safety of the participants.
Only four riders have managed to overcome Gento’s spot and finish this difficult edition. Gerard Morales and Ernest Ausiró from BUFF® Pro Team as well as runners Miguel Ángel Sánchez and Luís Duarte have remained in a compact group throughout the race. Although the heavy rain has made this race one of the most epic finals of the 105k, Gerard Morales has managed to cross the finish line in the first place.
